• Born in Versailles, July 17, 1953.
• Ph.D in Ancient History (1981, University of Paris I-Sorbonne) ; habilitation conferred to research direction (1996).
• Former Member of the French Institute of Anatolian Studies in Istanbul (1981-1983).
• Research assistant (1982), then Director of Research (1999) at the CNRS. Associated laboratory : UMR 7041, "Archéologies et Sciences de l'Antiquité", (Maison René Ginouvès, Nanterre).
• Scientific Director of Archaeology and Ancient History at the IFPO (French Institute of the Near East, with offices in Beirut, Damascus and Amman).
• Professor of Sumerian at the École du Louvre (Paris) and at the École Pratique des Hautes Études (IVe section, Sorbonne).

• Member of the team for the decipherment of cuneiform tablets found at the Syrian site of Mari (Director J.-M. Durand, Collège de France).

Current Research:

• My research focuses on the history of the ancient Near East during the 3rd and 2nd millennium B.C., in particular on the various aspects of the transition from the civilization of the Sumerians to that of their immediate successors in Syria and Mesopotamia: the Amorrites.
